Our new Massif™ typeface family is a fresh sans serif design that's great for both text and headline sizes. The typeface was designed by Steve Matteson in 2004 and then expanded into a complete family this year.
Massif Pro was inspired by the dramatic granite formations found in the Sierra Nevada mountains, particularly Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. Faults and fissures which define a massif formation are integral to this typeface design to impart a rich texture on text settings and to capture a unique sparkle in headlines.
Sketches by Steve Matteson: Half Dome from the early 1990s and early drawings of the typeface.
Massif’s letterforms contain both angular tension and smooth curvature, reminiscent of the rugged terrain formed through eons of glacial and tectonic activity. The Massif Pro typeface family features a versatile range of weights including light, semi light, regular, semibold, bold and extra bold. Matching italics for each weight are also included.
Massif Pro is available in both TrueType® and OpenType® font formats. OpenType advanced typographic features include small capitals and old style figures. Also included is a small set of decorative ornaments.
We hope you will find Massif Pro to be a valuable typeface family to add to your typographic repertoire.
