Affluent was designed to compensate for the horizontal smear that plagues ordinary fonts used on television screens and monitors. Where other fonts lose their structure, Affluent’s details remain well-defined when the electron beam refreshes the raster lines. Long horizontal lines and sharp transitions on curves compensate for the phosphor glow on rounded corners. Widened diagonal intersections prevent on-screen fill-in that mars ordinary fonts rendering them fuzzy and unreadable. Truncated ends on the ‘a’ and ‘e’ enable Affluent’s vowels to be easily distinguished from one another on even the blurriest picture tube.
