The Letraset Comedy font is the second of the two typefaces designed by Dave Farey and Richard Dawson that is based on a particular lettering style by British lettering artist, Cecil Wade. Like the Collins font, the Comedy font is a name taken from a famous British playhouse in London's West End. Both titles were chosen by the designers because much of Cecil Wade's most influential work, especially poster design, was undertaken for London's theatreland. Not surprising perhaps, since his Fleet Street studio was located just a stone's throw from the West End of London where most of the major theatres are sited. The Comedy font is a very bold display sans serif which has angled uprights that put the bulk of the weight firmly at the top of each character. The Comedy font has a suggestion of Art Deco influence but the bold, aggressive appearance of the Comedy font will make it an ideal choice for anything that needs hard-hitting, attention grabbing type. The Comedy font is obviously a display font but surprisingly readable in short tracts of text down as small as 14 point. Letraset Comedy. Dave Farey/Richard Dawson.
