Monotype Engravers Old English™ Font are derived from the blackletter that first appeared in England at the end of the twelfth century. These hearty, classic letterforms were actually modeled on French types developed during the reign of Charlemagne. Known as a Textura blackletter, the lowercase bears that style's characteristic straight and angled strokes with spiked ends. Engravers Old English font was produced at American Type Founders in 1902 under the direction of Morris Fuller Benton, and released in its current form by the Monotype Type Monotype Type Drawing Office in 1979. Engravers Old English font and its kin are often seen on certificates and newspaper mastheads, and are also put to good use by heavy metal bands and blushing brides-to-be.
