Caledonia was designed by W A Dwiggins in 1938 for Linotype. Based on Scotch Roman, a degree of liveliness was introduced by incorporating some features from Bulmer. New Caledonia removed the constraints imposed by the hot metal process on the original version and expanded the range of weights. The New Caledonia font family is primarily used for text and book work.
