Characteristics of Clarendon™ Family: Slab serifs first appeared in early nineteenth-century Britain, at the beginning of that country™s industrialization. Called Clarendon™ or Ionic™, typefaces in this vein were known as English Egyptiennes in other parts of Europe. The first Clarendon (named for Oxford™s Clarendon Press) was released by London™s Fann Street Foundry in 1845, and served as a bold companion to other typefaces in publications and advertising. This Clarendon Family from the Monotype Type Drawing Office is slightly narrower than the original 1903 cuts. Clarendon Family is sometimes found in text settings, but its wide, open forms are best suited for headlines and other display work. Character Set: Latin-1
