Sophia was designed by Matthew Carter and released by Carter & Cone Type Inc in 1993. The design of Sophia, a titling face, was suggested by hybrid alphabets from sixth-century Constantinople. The Sophia font has a Byzantine blend of cosmopolitan influences: Roman classical capitals, early uncials and Greek letterforms. Sophia includes several alternative character shapes. Some of these have extending strokes that are designed to fuse together with neighboring letters to compose on-the-fly ligatures. Sophia is a trademark of Carter & Cone Type Inc.
