Characteristics of Spectrum™ Bold: In the early 1940s, notable Dutch typographer Jan van Krimpen began work on a text face for a new Bible in development at Spectrum, a prestigious Utrecht-based publishing house. Van Krimpen drew inspiration for this design from the illustrious Aldine types of Renaissance Venice. The fluid yet sturdy lines and curves of Spectrum's roman form a solid foundation for readable text. The italics bear the deft touch of the artist's hand - their delicate and occasionally unusual shapes add graceful flair to the page. Although the Spectrum Bible project was ultimately cancelled, its namesake typeface was too beautiful to forget. Monotype finished Spectrum Bold and released it for public use in 1955.
