The Century Gothic font is a geometric sans-serif typeface created for Monotype Imaging in 1991 and the design is influenced by the geometric style sans serif faces which were popular during the 1920's and 30's. The Century Gothic Font Family maintains the basic design of 20th Century but has an enlarged 'x' height and has been modified to ensure satisfactory output from modern digital systems.
The Century Gothic font design is based on 20th Century, which was drawn by Sol Hess for the Lanston Monotype Company between 1936 and 1947as a version of the successful Futura typeface, but with a larger x-height and more even stroke width.
The Century Gothic font design is influenced by the geometric style sans serif faces which were popular during the 1920's and 30's and is distinct for its single-story lowercase a and g.
Century Gothic fonts are similar to ITC Avant Garde in its pure geometry, and does not possess the subtle variation in stroke width found in either Futura or Twentieth Century.
